Our seminars are accredited by the Law Society and the Bar Council and attract Continuing Professional Development (CPD) points.

In addition to our own seminars, barristers from Exchange Chambers regularly speak at events and conferences throughout the UK.  We also provide tailored in-house training for law firms and clients in the public and private sectors.

Modern Slavery Act Seminar 2017 - Manchester

This short and informal seminar will look at the statutory defence under s.45 of the Modern Slavery Act 2015.  The defence, which is similar to duress, represents an important development in the criminal law which all criminal practitioners should be familiar with.

The speakers, John Wyn Williams, Peter Killen and David Birrell, have experience in this area having been involved in a large drugs conspiracy in which the defence was raised. They will briefly summarise the law and procedure before offering practical tips and advice on how to approach cases in which the defence might arise.

Those attending are welcome to ask questions and make contributions with reference to their own experiences of this developing area of law.

Drinks and nibbles will follow the talks.

Please do not hesitate to contact Jo Stapley if you have any quieries regarding this seminar.
