Sarah Johnston appointed as Fee-paid Judge of the First-tier Tribunal

The Senior President of Tribunals, Sir Ernest Ryder, has appointed Sarah Johnston from Exchange Chambers as a Fee-Paid Judge of the First-Tier Tribunal, assigned to the Social Entitlement Chamber. Sarah will be based in the North West region.

Sarah has a wealth of experience in all areas of criminal litigation acting on behalf of both the prosecution and defence. She is a Grade 4 Prosecutor and a member of the CPS Rape Panel. Her areas of practice include fraud, serious sexual offences, violence, drugs offences and firearms. She also represents Defendants in all aspects of prison law including applications for Judicial Review, adjudications and Parole Board Hearings.

In 2016 Sarah was appointed to sit as a Recorder in the Crown Court and is also authorised to sit in family and civil cases too. She is one of the youngest Recorders ever appointed.

She will continue to practise as a barrister at Exchange Chambers alongside her judicial appointment.
